Bloomberg Breaks NYC Record with $5 Million Boost to Cuomo Super PAC

Michael Bloomberg has donated $5 million to Fix the City, a super PAC backing Andrew Cuomo’s mayoral campaign in New York City. Confirmed this week, the contribution is the largest ever made to a super PAC in the city’s electoral history.

The new funds elevate Fix the City’s total fundraising to nearly $20 million, intensifying efforts to support Cuomo’s campaign ahead of the June 24 Democratic primary. The PAC intends to expand its advertising blitz, particularly in opposition to Cuomo’s main rival, Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani of Queens.

Mamdani, who is aligned with progressive and democratic socialist groups, has come under fire from establishment figures including Bloomberg. Critics have pointed to his support for the  Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and proposals for higher taxation on wealthy residents.

Cuomo’s team, along with Fix the City, has focused its messaging on Cuomo’s extensive executive experience, positioning him as a seasoned leader in contrast to Mamdani’s relatively recent entrance into politics.

Bloomberg’s endorsement of Cuomo earlier in the week preceded his donation. Despite past disagreements during their respective tenures in government, sources suggest that recent private discussions helped pave the way for renewed cooperation.

Campaign finance records reveal Cuomo has maxed out the $7.9 million spending cap for candidates. In contrast, Fix the City, as an independent expenditure group, faces no such limitations, allowing it to continue funding aggressive media campaigns.

With this contribution, Bloomberg is now the leading individual donor in the 2025 mayoral race. The move signals strong institutional support for Cuomo as early voting gets underway.
