Joseph Borelli, a former Staten Island city councilman, has been appointed to the New York City Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) by Mayor Eric Adams. Borelli served in the City Council for ten years, including a term as Minority Leader. The appointment, effective immediately, will run through June 30, 2026. Borelli will also join the New York City Board of Education Retirement System, which manages over $11 billion in assets.

In a social media post, Borelli stated that the PEP oversees the nation’s largest school district, with nearly one million students, 1,800 schools, and a $38 billion budget. He added he was “happy to be able to continue devoting some time to public service” while managing his private firm, Chartwell Strategy Group.

Prior to the council, Borelli served in the New York State Assembly.
